Marathon Training

Marathon Training: Day 28

I felt as if my Saturday 11 mile long run caught up with me this morning. I was able to get a full 8 hours of sleep overnight but my overall energy level was low on Sunday. I found myself in negotiation between my brain and my body during the entire workout today.

Cross training on spin bike

iFit interval ride with Nicole Meline through Dina Huapi, Argentina

Sunday’s are cross-training on the spin bike and my runner’s strength workout. The bike ride went fine but I kept looking at the amount of time remaining. That’s not too uncommon though. I find the spin bike sort of boring even though I really enjoy the trainers and the on-location concept. Today, I did an interval ride of 4 minute pushes with 2 minute recoveries through the Enchanted Valley of Argentina in Patagonia. In total I rode 8.31 miles over 31 minutes.

Runner’s strength work

It was during the runner’s strength program that I found my brain fighting with my body the most, or was it the other way around? I’m really not sure. All I know is there were negotiations abound the entire 35 minutes. I got through all of the exercises. However, I only did one round of MOBO board work, instead of two rounds that I really should do when time permits.

I swapped out one hamstring exercise from a banded two leg hip thrust to a one legged hip thrust on each leg. The band just seemed like too much resistance and I thought I could get more out of single leg work anyway. I’m happy with my choice.

My hamstrings are feeling much stronger this week. The tightness that I’ve been experiencing in my right hamstring has almost completely healed. My hips and low back are also much better. I haven’t had any pain during or after runs for a few days now. It has me feeling hopeful that I’ve turned a corner as long as I continue to stay on top of any niggles as they pop up.
