Marathon Training

Marathon Training: Day 11

My run started off on a really dark and drizzly morning at 5:50 A.M. On my schedulel was 5 miles at my goal marathon pace, after a 5 minute warm up.

Since my goal was to run faster than my normal weekly runs I decided to listen to music instead of a podcast. It really helped keep my energy and pace up throughout the run. It feels good to be able to let go and run faster on these Thursday goal pace days. My Coros watch rated my run as a threshold run when I was finished. Right on target!

Run stats

I was able to exceed my goal pace by 6 seconds on average over the full 5 miles. It was still within my pace range but also kind of encouraging to see my pace average in the single digits for a change. My cadence was right on target at 179 average. My heart rate was mainly in my threshold range but 25% of the run it was in my aerobic range which I take to mean that my body is adapting to the stress of faster running. Translation: improved fitness (yeah!)
