Marathon Training

Marathon Training: Day 37

How nice it is to run in the daylight! I’m really enjoying watching the sun rise in the morning; not to mention the ability to see obstacles in my way on the road. I really thought today would be the day that I would run in the rain. The forecast called for about a quarter of an inch and there was a 70% chance of rain during my running time.

I wore my rain jacket, a long sleeve pullover and tank top over long tights. I also wore my ASICS Gel-Nimbus 23 Lite 2’s in preparation of getting all wet.

You know, I think it was drier today than it was last week when it was supposed to rain? Plus, it was really warm under the rain jacket at 58 degrees. By mile three of my 5 mile run I was contemplating taking off the rain jacket and tying it around my waist. I’m glad I didn’t though because every so often a wind gust would blow in and the temperature would drop significantly.

Running perspective

The run today felt easy and I spent some time thinking about how far I’ve come already in my training program. I’m part way through week 6 of my 18 week plan and I can feel the difference in my easy, conversational pace runs. Although my heart rate seems to be maintaining the same average, my breathing is much more controlled. Today’s run felt almost automatic but still enjoyable. I love when runs come together that way.
