Marathon Training: Day 43

Double hill day! Mileage has bumped up to 4 miles on shorter days so that means repeating the ½ mile hill twice. Monday’s are also kettlebell strength days but I did not make it back to the house in time to get that part done. I’d hoped to have time in the evening after work but no such luck. I knew that was a longshot anyway. That’s why I workout in the mornings. If I…

Marathon Training: Day 42

Eating was not on plan last night and it carried over to Sunday’s cross training. My sister came over on Saturday evening and we both had our own takeout meals. Let’s just say that I did not make good choices when it came to nutrition. I went for walnut shrimp (vegan) over brown rice with Veganaise. I’ve eaten this many times before without a problem. However, I’ve been eating much cleaner for many months now…

Marathon Training: Day 39

The cold morning air may have assisted me in accomplishing my pace goals on today’s 6 mile marathon goal pace run. Although I dreaded going out in the cold, at least it was not dark. I didn’t even wear my Noxgear light vest because it was already starting to look sunny. However, sun or not, 41 degrees is still cold in this SoCal girl’s mind. Cold temp running gear I realize that cold temperatures are…

Marathon Training: Day 38

I needed a reprieve from the cold mornings so I set up my short, three mile conversational pace run for the treadmill. To make it more interesting I mapped out three miles from my upcoming half marathon tune-up race in Laughlin, Nevada. iFit Google mapping feature One of the features I love about my treadmill is the ability to map out runs. Since my treadmill inclines and declines with the terrain, I can get a…

Marathon Training: Days 35 & 36

My Sunday training days have been a bit off kilter lately. I’ve been waking up later on Sunday and getting a later start to my strength workout and cross training. To add to that, today was the switch to Daylight Savings time. It felt later than the clock read but I still wanted that extra sleep. Cross training through Argentina My legs were still heavy from Saturday’s 12 mile long run. My recovery went well…

Marathon Training: Day 34

Today’s long run encompassed 12 beautiful miles that held a lot of variety. I took a lot of time planning and preparing for today’s run from deciding how to dress to researching non-gel fueling options. Dressing in layers It was 45 degrees when I started my ½ mile warm up walk to the starting point of my run. I was immediately grateful to myself for taking the couple of extra minutes to go back into…

Marathon Training: Day 32

Yesterday, I managed to sidestep the rain. However, I made up for it today with the wind! According to the local weather guy we were experiencing 19 mph sustained winds this morning around my running time. The temperature was 56 degrees according to my Coros but with the wind the real feel was in the mid 40’s! Layering for the wind Today’s run was a 6 mile run at marathon goal pace. I really struggled…
